BEST SALT LAKE HOTELS
What are the best hotels in Salt Lake City?
– Are you in Salt Lake City for a convention or conference being held at the Salt Palace Convention Center?
– Are you a tourist visiting Utah for a sightseeing vacation?
Then you will want to stay at a downtown hotel. The metro area sprawls out quite a bit, and some visitors are disappointed when they book a hotel outside the downtown area just to save some money. But even in downtown Salt Lake City there are a few dozen hotels, so how do you find the one that is best for you? Take a look at our recommendations below.
WHERE TO STAY: SALT LAKE DOWNTOWN HOTELS
MOST EXPENSIVE:
Grand America (www.grandamerica.com): Pure luxury. The only AAA “5-Diamond” rated hotel in Salt Lake City. Built for the 2002 Winter Olympics, it occupies an entire 10-acre city block located on Main Street almost one mile south of Temple Square. Reminiscent of majestic European hotels, rooms are filled with the finest quality furnishings. Conveniently across the street is a public light rail train station, located in the Free Fare Zone, allowing you to travel into Temple Square and shopping centers for no charge.
EXPENSIVE:
Hotel Monaco (www.monaco-saltlakecity.com): A Kimpton boutique hotel rated AAA “4-Diamond” and considered one of the finer hotels in Salt Lake City, perhaps second only to Grand America. Located just two blocks south of Temple Square, it also houses one of Salt Lake City’s top restaurants, Bambara.
MODERATE:
Little America (www.saltlake.littleamerica.com): Popular, nice, affordable. Rated AAA “4-Diamond” and offers both luxrious rooms and those that are more affordable. Across the street from Grand America mentioned above, so it has the same convenience to the free zone of public transit.
PRIME LOCATION:
Salt Lake Marriott Downtown at City Creek (www.marriott.com/hotels/travel/slcut-salt-lake-city-marriott-downtown): Ideal location for visitors. Just about as close to Temple Square as you can possibly get, also located across the street from the Salt Palace Convention Center, and in the new City Creek shopping center. *Be aware that there are multiple Marriott hotels in Salt Lake City, and many visitors confuse this hotel with the Marriott City Center on State Street.
Salt Lake Plaza Hotel (www.plaza-hotel.com): The absolute closest hotel to Temple Square (though the Marriott previously mentioned is a very close 2nd). Often chosen by visitors who come to Utah specifically to visit the famous Family History Library, located immediately next door. This is more of a budget hotel for those who value location above all else.
