Old Deseret Village – Salt Lake City Tours

Overlooking This Is The Place Monument is a pioneer replica village that commemorates the arrival of the Mormon pioneers to the Salt Lake Valley. Old Deseret Village is comprised of replica and authentic pioneer homes and buildings from various locations around Utah. Volunteers dressed in pioneer clothing act as interpreters to bring pioneer history to life as you walk the dusty streets of this 440 acre property. Historic buildings are arranged as they were in a real pioneer town, with dirt roads and board sidewalks.

Pictured above is the Andrus Halfway House and Farm. It served as an inn where Lucy Loomis Tuttle, the third wife of Milo Andrus, and her family provided food and lodging for travelers. Called a “halfway house” because of its location between two rest stops.
